Promoting & Demoting
As we learned in the Team Hierarchy & Profile Roles article, it's vitally important that each member of your team is given the correct role-level in Stella Connect. Sometimes, you'll need to promote a Team Member to a Team Leader (yay promotions!) or you'll need to convert a Team Leader to a Team Member after team restructuring.
Let's start with promoting!
Promoting a Team Member:
- On the Manage Team page, click the green pencil icon to the far-right of the name of the Team Member you're promoting to edit their profile.
- At the very bottom of the page, click on the Promote button.
- Confirm that you want to make this Team Member a Team Leader to finish!

Converting a Team Leader to a Team Member
If the Team Leader you're demoting to Team Leader has never had any reporting Team Members (like if you created a Team Leader accidentally when you meant to create a Team Member), you'll see a Demote button at the bottom of the edit profile page for that Team Leader. Simply click it and you're good to go!
If the Team Leader you're hoping to demote to Team Member already has reporting Team Members and those Team Members have already received feedback, you won't see a Demote button on the Team Leader's profile anymore. This ensures that historical data is not lost, so you'll need to follow the steps below to deactivate the Team Leader's profile and create a new Team Member profile for them to use moving forward.
- On the Manage Team page, find the Team Leader you'd like to demote and click the red circular deactivate icon to the far-right of their name.
- Once you've deactivated the Team Leader, you'll be led through a step where you'll need to reassign their reporting Team Members to a new Team Leader.
- Once you're finished reassigning Team Members and you're back on the Manage Teams page, click to select 'Show Deactivated' checkbox. Now search for that deactivated Team Leader.
- Click on the green pencil icon to the far-right of the Team Leader's name to edit their profile.
- Change the Team Leader's Email address to something like name+deactivated@yourdomain.com (or change their Employee ID if you're using IDs rather than Email addresses to something like 1234+deactivated) and save the updates.
- Now you can create a brand new Team Member profile using the employee's actual
Email address or Employee ID and all of their profile data.
The impact of converting a Team Leader to a Team Member:
- User will receive a new confirmation email and will need to set a new password.
- Past requests and responses will be tied to the old user and will not appear on Dashboards and Team Member Trends for this new user. That data will still be accessible by other Team Leaders and Admins by filtering the dashboard to view the deactivated user.
- The old user profile will still show as a Team Leader on the Manage Team page (when Show Deactivated box is checked), and on the Stream when filtering.
